October 22

Today we prayed for the people of Portugal. We watched the Prayercast video here. Pray for the Portuguese people to follow Jesus.

October is Pastor Appreciation month. We have an update on Pastor John’s trip to Israel. He had a conflict with the original dates, so he found another tour that’s very similar that’s cheaper! The highest priority is to send Pastor John; that cost is about $2400 and we’ve met that goal. Pastor would like to take his sons James and Peter with them, and he’s offered to pay for them himself. But on his salary, I know that would be difficult, so I’m sure he’d appreciate any help with the cost of their tickets. You can contribute to the fund for his trip to Israel by clicking on the yellow “Donate” button on the right side of this screen. You can donate with PayPal or any credit card. Please include a note in “Add special instructions to LLWC” that it’s for Gocke’s trip to Israel. You can also write a check to LLWC, with a note in the Memo line for Gocke’s trip to Israel. All donations to LLWC are tax deductible. The departure date is February 18, 2018, and full payment must be made by November 21, 2017. You can see more details about Pastor’s trip here.

We had a very productive day in the Community Garden, harvesting carrots, potatoes, leeks, squash, dill, turnips, lots of smiles, and probably a few blisters. About 40 workers harvested over 2000 lbs of carrots and about 50 bushels of potatoes. Thanks to all for your help! You can see some photos of today’s work here. The cabbage is still to be harvested. And many thanks to Chris, Cynthia, and Caleb for all of their hard work!

Most of the labor will be needed on Steinfeldt Rd, but carrots and squash are at or near 99 Kickerville. Please dress for weather and bring children and potato hooks if you have either. We have some here we can loan you. Hooks, that is. Children are loaned only when their diapers are full. We need several carrot washing people to hose the crop. Could a few bring full rain gear and rubber boots, please?
A homegrown Thanksgiving-style turkey dinner will be served at church after the harvest is in, beginning at about 5 PM. You do NOT want to miss this dinner; all are welcome.

This morning we had an update from Drs. Linda and Romy Caringal, missionaries to Asia. You can read more about them and their backgrounds on our Missions page (here).
